Donald Trump is the master of making a deal. It's true; just ask him and he'll tell you. The evidence disagrees with his claim.
Yes, 63,000,000 Americans were conned into believing Donald Trump was some sort of business whisperer and that his skills would somehow transfer to government leadership and we'll all be rich. Either that, or they voted for a racist, a bigot, and a confessed sexual assaulter.
That's what Trump voters have to come to terms with. Either they admit to being conned, which basically means they're ignorant, or they admit they voted for a despicable human being, providing evidence they endorse such behavior and beliefs.
Yesterday, The Washington Post reported Donald Trump instructed his people to look into rejoining the Trans-Pacific Partnership, you know, that trade deal Trump pulled the US out of after his inauguration.
I don't have to remind you of all the things Trump said about the TPP and how it was such a bad deal for the US.
Then Trump went and caused a trade riff with China and the farmers, you know, a large part of his base, are up in arms because they stand to lose the most. The farmers know the repercussions of Trump's artful dealing and they're damn scared.
Many Republican Senators, incidentally, it's those from farming states, also have urged Trump to reconsider his tariffs and now are urging him to rejoin the TPP.
It was at a meeting of lawmakers and governors discussing trade when Trump brought up the possibility of rejoining the TPP.
The Mango Mussolini also tweeted on the subject:
Would only join TPP if the deal were substantially better than the deal offered to Pres. Obama. We already have BILATERAL deals with six of the eleven nations in TPP, and are working to make a deal with the biggest of those nations, Japan, who has hit us hard on trade for years!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) April 13, 2018
Always the tough talker, Trump is trying to set the stage for the US begging its way back into the TPP. Of course, Trump's base is too ignorant to see the reality of the situation. Trump made an awful decision and it's hurting US businesses, especially farmers, you know, the people who helped elect him.
Again, Trump is an idiot.
His tough talk is only hurting matters.
Our allies--well, how long they remain allies remains a question--aren't so eager to allow the US to return to the deal and if they do allow it, it is going to benefit them more than it does the US.
“We’ve got a deal” already, said Steven Ciobo, Australia’s trade minister, who added, “I can’t see that all being thrown open to appease the United States.”
At some point, even the most ardent of Trump supporters have to realize this guy is in way over his head. At some point, they have to admit they made a horrible mistake.
There already is a lot of damage done that will take years to repair.
How many farms will be lost by the time of that fix?
