Insidious or not, I want my soul back

Insidious, an adjective, or a 2011 horror flick. Either way, I can't shake the word from my brain.

Dr. Braughan talked of Mantle Cell Lymphoma as if it was alive. A villain. The monster under your bed.

She described it as insidious.
insidious

1a: having a gradual and cumulative effect: SUBTLE
the insidious pressures of modern life
b: of a disease: developing so gradually as to be well established before becoming apparent

insidious drugs
All I can think of is a quote from Sylvia Plath:
"I must get my soul back from you; I am killing my flesh without it."
